If you’ve been reading the Miöja missives for a while, (see here) you’ll know how much we love bartering around here. Last year we comissioned a song in exchange for skincare. After several months of getting ever more gorgeous, Miles Sievwright finally came up with the goods. Watch and listen.
Filmed on my iPhone under a tree in my garden with the birds as backing singers, this is a homage to natural magic and spirit everywhere. And, commissioned on a whim, the only directive given to Miles were the words “deeply, naturally beautiful”. Utterly.
Miles Sievwright is a talented singer/ songwriter based in Cape Town. Heartfelt friend, tea-time philosopher and reluctant romantic, he’s a most worthy poster boy. We spoke to Miles about his music, his inspiration, and many months with Miöja.
A: I approach my song writing with anticipation, whimsy, decadence. There is something that wants to show itself and I sit gazing out a window, eyes locked in a mirror, huddled over a hollow body, strings and voice searching for form. It is honest, often gentle- the biggest and smallest feelings; intricate.
A: Deeply, naturally beautiful – “All we need grows in trees”. I feel the highest form of beauty lies in our connection to the natural world.
A: “lying beneath in the shade find peace / We’ll find a way to return to the place / where we met God face to face”. I’m a seeker of wonders, I revel in beauty, and I enjoy an excellent coffee.
